Overview:
When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin-one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.
My Review:
5 Stars
This book is hands down fan-freaking-nomenal. I absolutely devoured this book and I wish I had taken longer to savor this fantastic piece of writing because who knows how long it will take for the next one to come out.
Sarah J. Maas is an author in a class all her own and never, not once, has she disappointed with her fantastic works of fantasy. This is an author who truly knows how to weave words together to paint the reader a beautiful world filed with amazing characters, magic, intrigue, and a plot so good it will have you on your knees, being for more.
I just can't even tell you how good this book is. It is beyond my scope of experience to successfully convey just how out of this world phenomenal this story is.
The characters are harsh and jaded, cynical and beautiful survivors. They are truly portrayed as harsh realities without the sugar coating. Of course, damaged, flawed, and scrappy characters are my favorite so this book got an even higher rating just for that alone. I am a huge fan of evil bad boy characters who have redeeming qualities and this novel had them aplenty.
Maas, true to get nature, builds a world all her own. Many people have classified this as a retelling of 'Beauty and the Beast', but for me, it was an entirely new story rich with magic and adventure and of course, a romance worth writing home about. The plot definitely had a nice crescendo, with a definite happy ending... for the moment.
I know that I can't be the only one dying to know what had the character Rhys gasping about before he disappeared. Curse you, Maas, now my imagination is running wild!
... I need the next book now...
