Overview:
A sinister magic is sweeping across Nash City…
To Fiona Moon, it’s just another day at work. And some days, well, they’re a helluva lot worse than others. As a member of the elite Black Blade Guard, Fiona is tasked with hunting down the most-dangerous Paranorm criminals. To find out who is kidnapping mages and sucking the life energy from their bodies, she has to work with the one man that embodies everything she despises.
Master Necromancer Ian Barroes, a rich professor of Necromantic Studies, wants only one thing in this world… Fiona.
They each hold secrets that could destroy them, but could also be the key to destroying the evil Voodoo priest, Bokor. They must learn to trust each other and track down Bokor before more innocent lives are lost. When Fiona becomes a target of the evil madman, she is lured into his trap. Now, she and Ian have to fight for survival… and their very souls.
My Review:
3 Stars
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Let me first start off by saying while I don't particularly think this book was good for me, I think many readers will enjoy it, regardless of my particular taste.
I have had the good fortune of recently reading a string of epic books that blew my mind, so I believe this has lead me to become a bit more critical of my reading material, as of late.
This book is a combination of a post-apocalyptic world meets urban fantasy, paranormal and romance. The plot was good and definitely had some intriguing ideas and I really enjoyed the way the author wove together the ideas of how this paranormal world came about. I liked the family dynamic of Fiona,Pinky, and her sisters as well as the 'villain' characterization and interaction throughout the story.
Mostly, I was unimpressed with the love story, or rather, its beginnings. It went from hate to love in .000001 seconds and never really fully developed for me. I definitely expected more development and a higher quality of the romance storyline from an author whose main genre is romance.
All in all, I'm glad I have this book a shot even if it had some disappointments although I would have to say I preferred the paranormal aspect more than romance.
