Overview:
When Princess Wilhelmina was a child, the Indigo Kingdom invaded her homeland. Ten years later, Wil and the other noble children who escaped are ready to fight back and reclaim Wil's throne. To do so, Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate the Indigo Kingdom palace with hopes of gathering information that will help them succeed.
But Wil has a secret—one that could change everything. Although magic has been illegal for a century, she knows her ability could help her save her kingdom. But magic creates wraith, and the deadly stuff is moving closer and destroying the land. And if the vigilante Black Knife catches her using magic, she may disappear like all the others. . . .
My Review:
Yes, yes, yes, yes.... and then oh my god, nooooooooo!! (but in a good way)
This book is epic. Absolutely epic. I have a sneaking suspicion that this will definitely be one of my favorite books of 2015. It's high fantasy at its finest and just in case you haven't figured it out yet, fantasy is hands down my favorite genre.
" The Orphan Queen" has it all. Amazing characters, phenomenal plot, a tantalizing world, love, magic, mystery and of course, a cause worth fighting for.
Ms. Meadows has been gifted with a truly unique writing style that made this book stand above others in its genre. She made her world building absolutely enjoyable and intriguing which is most definitely not par for the course. Instead of being something most of us fantasy lovers suffer through for the sake of the genre, I found myself excited to learn more with each word.
The characters are awe inspiring. Of course, they are beautifully flawed and stronger for it which is my absolute favorite kind of character. This doesn't just apply to the lead character Wil either. Don't even get me started on Black Knife... I will be your vigilante partner anytime, sir. The characters are truly amazing and it is prevalent throughout the entirety of the book, even with the seemingly most insignificant character. It's a true compliment to Ms. Meadows skill.
The only reason this book was not rated as 5 stars, was the ending. How dare you rip my heart out of my chest like that Ms. Meadows! That cliff hanger nearly killed me and even though it was the absolute perfect way to end this book, my resentment at having to wait for an entire year for what is sure to be a phenomenal conclusion, has knocked out that itty bitty half star.
