Overview:
This is the first book in 'The Healing Wars'
Nya is a Shifter, someone who can heal by shifting pain from person to person. She’s hunted by those eager to exploit her ability for their own purposes, determined to make her a weapon, a killer, even a symbol for the war that’s brewing.
All Nya wants is to protect her family and regain her people’s freedom, but the more she’s drawn into the plans of others, the more she realizes how key to everyone’s victory she really is.
And how much she’ll have to sacrifice just to survive.
My Review:
4 Stars
I found myself pleasantly surprised with this book.
It had an intriguing story line which is just refreshing these days with so many books just recycling somebody else's ideas and story. The 'end game' of the plot was interesting even if it was a little bit predictable. Of course, this book had the criteria which makes a book awesome for me; adventure, magic and a cause worth fighting for.
The characters are extremely likeable and I found myself really enjoying their personal interactions and such. The thing that made a lasting impact on me was the fact that the main character Nya had to come to terms with the fact that we all make selfish choices that hurt people even if it's for something we think is good or right.
The world was intriguing but left me a little wanting. I was a little confused about the duke and the general and who had what authority and how the war came about and the resolution of what/who conquered.
Overall, it was a good read and I will be continuing on with the next book in the series.
