Overview :
From RACHEL VINCENT, New York Timesbestselling author, comes the first book in a new series about a girl who must join forces with rogue exorcists to save her sister and, ultimately, humanity.
Sixteen-year-old Nina Kane should be worrying about her immortal soul, but she’s too busy trying to actually survive. Her town’s population has been decimated by soul-consuming demons, and souls are in short supply. Watching over her younger sister, Mellie, and scraping together food and money are all that matters. The two of them are a family. They gave up on their deadbeat mom a long time ago.
When Nina discovers that Mellie is keeping a secret that threatens their very existence, she’ll do anything to protect her. Because in New Temperance, sins are prosecuted as crimes by the brutal Church and its army of black-robed exorcists. And Mellie’s sin has put her in serious trouble.
To keep them both alive, Nina will need to trust Finn, a fugitive with deep green eyes who has already saved her life once and who might just be an exorcist. But what kind of exorcist wears a hoodie?
Wanted by the Church and hunted by dark forces, Nina knows she can’t survive on her own. She needs Finn and his group of rogue friends just as much as they need her.
My Review :
5 Stars
What a phenomenal first installment in a fantastic new series. I'm a huge fan of Ms. Vincent and she did not disappoint in her new novel. I read it in one sitting!
Now, I am usually not a fan of anything with angels, demons, and such but I figured I had to say least give this book a try because it was by one of my favorite authors. I'm beyond glad that I did. This story and plot is like nothing I've ever read before and is singularly unique. It is a fast pace ride that will have you racing to get to the next page. I was hugely disappointed when the book ended only because I wanted more.
The characters were so well thought out and had so much depth it was hard not to fall in absolute love with them. I love them all. They are ALL my favorite. The chemistry between all of them is fantastic and the romance between Nina and Finn is electric. I can't wait to see what happens next with them. I'm ridiculously invested in them.
Needless to say, this has become a favorite book of 2015 for me. I'm thrilled that I put aside my prejudice for demon related novels and trusted that Ms. Vincent would never steer me wrong.
Read this book, you're going to love it.
